Institutional Memberships
American Institute of Indian Studies: CSAMES has Class A membership, which doctoral- and dissertation-level fellowships, assistance with conducting research in India, intensive language instruction in India, research project clearance, academic institutional affiliation and visa authorization, logistical and networking assistance, temporary housing and assistance with long-term accommodations, and guidance in complying with local regulations and financial management.
American Institute of Pakistan Studies: The AIPS Executive Committee (elected from Representatives of the Board) meets twice a year and the Board of Trustees meets annually at the Conference on South Asia in Madison, Wisconsin. Some member benefits include: fellows that are selected from your institution incur no administrative fees ($250 per person); ability to be involved in the Pakistan Faculty Mentoring Program (bringing Pakistan Faculty to US Member Institutions); ability to be involved in the Short-term Faculty Exchange program (bringing US Member Institution Faculty to Pakistan); ability to be involved in the Dissertation Workshop program (bringing US Member Institution Faculty to Pakistan to lead workshop); faculty from member-institutes receive logistical support from the AIPS Centers in Islamabad and Lahore and are offered accommodations at a member-institute lower rate; faculty/students from member-institutes can apply to AIPS travel grant program; announcements regularly emailed out, such as job postings to Institutional Member Representative; the AIPS newsletter is sent out annually; language teaching resources in Urdu and Pashto are available to institutions with membership; Pakistan Lecture Series; scholars from Pakistan do a lecture circuit in the US and visit AIPS Member Institutions upon request.
American Research Institute in Turkey: ARIT maintains research two research centers in Turkey, one in Istanbul and one in Ankara. Each ARIT research center provides a research library open to the public, meeting facilities for the local Turkish and American community, and a hostel for visiting scholars. The hostel provides rooms and kitchen facilities for long- and short-term visitors. Both centers offer access to wireless internet. Guests from ARIT member institutions receive a discounted hostel rate. The ARIT Ankara library collection covers the broad range of archaeology in Turkey. The ARIT Istanbul library specializes in Ottoman and Byzantine studies. A searchable catalogue for the libraries of ARIT centers is accessible on the world-wide web on-line at the Digital Library for International Research.
The Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies: ANHS members work or live in or are experts on Bhutan, Nepal, the Indian Himalaya, Pakistan, Tibet, Afghanistan and Central Asia. Through the ANHS Research Center in Kathmandu, we are now able to help scholars with temporary housing and research assistance, office space including online access to JSTOR, and access to a vast network of regional scholars and institutional contacts that are critical for conducting successful research. The benefits of membership include a subscription to the ANHS journal HIMALAYA; research support through the ANHS Research Center in Kathmandu; a Senior Fellowship Award level $250 higher than for non-members; and access to a network of regional scholars.
Palestinian American Research Center: Benefits of membership include copies of their semi-annual newsletter, priority notification about PARC fellowships and other competitions, notification of new publications on Palestine, and special invitations to PARC-sponsored activities.
