Mahir Saul, Professor of Anthropology, has been awarded a research grant from the prestigious Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research for his project entitled "African Journeys in Turkey: From Suitcase Trade to Soccer." This project is a fieldwork based investigation to be carried out in Istanbul, Turkey. He was also awarded additional funding from the Research Board at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The project concerns circular migrations and trade networks between central and west Africa and Turkey.
